How does Tipsport's parent earn more than it sells?

The company behind one of the best-known Czech betting brands earned far more in 2025 than it sold. Against comparable Czech firms the gap looks absurd. It mostly shows what the parent company is: less a bookmaker than the place where a group's profit lands.

Key finding

In 2025 TIPSPORT a.s. turned revenue of CZK 561m into a net profit of CZK 2.7bn, a net margin of 474.8% against a median of 4.1% among 8 comparable Czech companies.

A betting brand that earns more than it sells

Anyone who has watched Czech football or hockey knows the Tipsport name: on the shirts, the boards around the pitch and the phones of fans placing a bet at half time. The joint-stock company (a.s.) of that name, based in Beroun, filed its 2025 accounts, and they do not look like a bookmaker's. The figures cover the parent company alone, under Czech accounting standards, in CZK, for the calendar year.

Revenue in 2025 was CZK 561m, up 5.0% from CZK 534m in 2024. Net profit was CZK 2.7bn, up from CZK 2.3bn. The company kept a profit larger than everything it sold. Its net margin, profit as a share of revenue, came to 474.8%, wider by 40.3 pp than a year earlier, when it already stood at 434.5%.

Now set that next to 8 other large Czech companies used for comparison, from McDonald's ČR to Rossmann and the state banknote printer. Their median net margin in 2025 was 4.1%. Tipsport sits 470.7 pp above it. Even the comparison's strongest earner, McDonald's ČR, kept 34.1%.

Read at face value, that would make Tipsport the most profitable business in the country by a distance no operating company can reach. A margin above a hundred percent is not a sign of brilliant pricing. It is a sign that the profit comes from somewhere other than the revenue line.

Where a profit bigger than sales comes from

An income statement has two floors. On the ground floor sits the operating business: what the company sells and what it costs to sell it. Upstairs sits the financial result: interest, gains on investments and, above all for a parent company, dividends from the firms it owns. Net profit adds the two together.

Tipsport's ground floor is small and almost cost-free. Operating profit was CZK 515m on revenue of CZK 561m, an operating margin of 91.8%, barely changed from 91.3% in 2024. Depreciation, the yearly cost of wearing out buildings and equipment, was only CZK 1.6m. A bookmaker running betting shops, servers, staff and payouts to winners would not keep that much of each koruna. A revenue line with almost nothing behind it reads to me like fees charged within a group, such as for the brand or for services, rather than the betting business customers see.

That leaves most of the CZK 2.7bn net profit on the upper floor. The company owns a set of subsidiaries, among them TIPSPORT SK in Slovakia and E-TIP, and in November 2026 the register added KODEX, SC Eden Beroun, COMISIO and K O D E X Hořovice to the group. In a structure like this, profits earned in the operating companies usually travel up to the parent as dividends and appear there as financial income. The line that would settle how much came from which subsidiary is the breakdown of that financial income.

The revenue history points the same way. In 2023 the company still booked CZK 2.4bn in revenue. Two years later it was CZK 561m, a fall of 51.5% a year on average. That is not how a well-known brand loses its customers, because nothing in the profit suggests a business in retreat. It is how a company looks when the selling moves to other entities in the group and the parent keeps the ownership.

The balance sheet fits the picture. Equity reached CZK 3.0bn out of total assets of CZK 3.6bn, an equity ratio of 83.1%, so the company carries very little debt. Yet equity grew only CZK 59.3m in a year with a net profit of CZK 2.7bn. Profit at that scale that does not pile up in the company usually leaves it as dividends to the shareholders. Cash at the year end was a modest CZK 173m. The money passes through rather than sitting still. The auditor, LH audit, signed off the 2025 statements without reservations.

What the gap to the peers really measures

So the lead tension, a margin far above comparable companies, is real in the accounts and misleading as a verdict on the business. The usual reasons for a gap like this are pricing power, a protected niche or a lighter cost base. Tipsport may well have some of all three in its betting operations. This statement cannot show it, because the parent's margin measures how much of the group's profit is booked here, not how efficiently anyone takes a bet.

For the bettors, nothing changes. The odds, the app and the shops sit wherever the group runs them, and the parent's accounts tell them little about the margin built into a ticket. For the market, the useful reading is the size of the flow: a parent company with an operating base this thin collected a profit of CZK 2.7bn in a single year, more than the CZK 735m McDonald's ČR earned from its restaurants. Betting, wherever in the group it is booked, is clearly a business that throws off cash.

There is a check in this for anyone running a business who likes to compare margins with competitors. Before you set your net margin next to the sector's, split it into what you earned from operations and what came from holdings, interest or one-off gains. Compare the operating part with the peers' operating part. If your gap to the sector shrinks sharply after that split, the gap was never about how well you run the business.

Tipsport's parent company is not the most profitable firm in the Czech Republic. It is the account where a profitable group parks its earnings before paying them out, and on that job it reports a very clean year. Anyone who wants to know how good the bookmaker is will have to look one floor down, in the subsidiaries.
